What is that New Jersey Sound?
Growing up in an Italian family gave me the opportunity to be turned on to some amazing music, in particular that New Jersey Sound. New Jersey gave birth to a fusion of rock, rhythm and blues and doo wop but what makes it timeless is the fact you can dance to these grooves.
The Four Seasons are a perfect example of the New Jersey sound. Their song “Rag Doll” revolutionized an entire movement and took it beyond New Jersey spreading throughout the country. My dad used to blast “Walk Like a Man” and “Big Girls Don’t Cry” in our living room and boy did we dance and have some of the best times of our lives.This/tag helps explain it more.
Frankie Valli was a pioneer, so were the less mainstream groups like the Salvation. The Salvation was the local pride that were packing Jersey dance clubs and making girls scream. Bruce Springsteen who is a good old New Jersey boy from the 80′s added some old fashioned accordion players to his E Street Band. This genre continues to evolve with artists from all over the globe like Bruno Mars, Amy Winehouse and Adelle because of the New Jersey Sound true soul will never die.
